solution Part III: Package room
some thoughts:
the failure rate can be as high as 50% during the holidays.
so why not deliver directly to the resident’s unit?
Aside from there being no guarantee that personnel would deliver each package, it would take too much time for the delivery person, residents may not be comfortable with it and it would be extremely inconvenient for the traffic inside the building.
summary of research
persona: delivery person
Hank is a delivery driver for a major carrier, delivering hundreds of packages every day. Time is money for him, since he has incentives from work to finish his route early every day.
He needs quick entry to the building and a super-fast package drop-off process with no extra steps.
what’s the process like right now?
delivery overview
Delivery drivers have to scan each package when loading them into the truck and again once they are delivered to the package room.
This takes up valuable time for the driver, who may skip the second scan to speed up his route time. Because of this, the resident will not be notified of their package being delivered, increasing the chances of it being lost or stolen.
our goal
Save delivery personnel time and ensure secure package delivery by creating a seamless system that benefits everyone involved in the process
our solution
our system minimizes the time it takes to deliver packages by reducing the number of scans to zero. the driver is entering a code he would enter anyway, and all residents are guaranteed notification of arrival.
