solution Part II: elevator
summary of research
persona: guest
Carl is a friend of Amy’s who has trouble navigating buildings and doesn’t want to be a hassle to Amy, especially when he doesn’t have elevator access.
He needs easy access from the front door directly to Amy’s unit, with clear directions and no additional passes or keys.

benchmarking
Competitors offer remote elevator calling, touchless access and grouping residents by floors.
The market is missing an individually-tailored experience with floor-predicting algorithms.
our goal
Develop a smooth, smart and secure elevator system with simple integration into the MyQ cloud and other CGI hardware solutions.
app design considerations
myq design for android
The goal of the MyQ team is to expand the range of its users, starting with current users. Our goal for the design of the app was to keep the design familiar enough for current MyQ users to understand, while keeping it simple enough for new users to figure out with all of the offerings.
Designing for Android requires us to consider the slightly more blocky buttons on those interfaces, and to balance those aspects with the more rounded MyQ aesthetic.
app goals
call elevator from phone
Touchless front door entry would be pointless if residents had to touch elevator buttons, so the whole process should be able to be done from the resident’s phone.
elevator/app smart learning
The app will be able to remember past floors that the resident accesses and will offer those floors as suggestions once the resident enters the door.
designate guest elevator access
Guests don’t usually have access to elevators in newer, more secure buildings because it is a complicated process.
app functions
device interface goals
device use is not necessary
Residents will be able to go through the entire elevator use process without touching the physical device. However, it is still an option if they don’t want to use their phone.
guest access option
Guests’ names will show up under “Guest Access”, where after authenticating they will be immediately taken to the floor designated by the resident.
simple design
Residents and guests alike complain about current systems’ confusing interface. It needs to be straight to the point and not have too many flashy alternate options.
