solution Part I: Front Door Access
summary of research
persona: resident
Amy is a young resident of an MDU and knows the value of her own time. She has guests over often and leaves her apartment multiple times every day due to her busy schedule.
She needs a touchless entry option with remote guest access and no physical key requirement.

benchmarking
Competitors offer remote guest access, NFC readers for key fobs, video calling from the front door and a pin code as backup access, but none of them offer all of these features.
our goal
Give residents a convenient system that allows all parties involved to have maximum control over who is able to access the residence, and to carry that over to the inside devices.
app design considerations
myq design for android
The goal of the MyQ team is to expand the range of its users, starting with current users. Our goal for the design of the app was to keep the design familiar enough for current MyQ users to understand, while keeping it simple enough for new users to figure out with all of the offerings.
Designing for Android requires us to consider the slightly more blocky buttons on those interfaces, and to balance those aspects with the more rounded MyQ aesthetic.
app goals
touchless resident access
Especially with COVID increasing people’s health concerns, touchless access is a must.
useful for all building needs
Our goal is to provide one app to replace every app residents would need to exist in their buildings. This includes door access, package management, rent payment, etc.
convenient guest access
Residents don’t want to go downstairs to receive guests, so we need to offer them the option to manage guest access remotely, specifically from their phone.
app callouts
device interface goals
easy-to-identify nfc area
With touchless access, the scan area needs to be clear without complicated directions.
guest messaging to resident
Sometimes guests show up unannounced or may not have received a code; messaging the resident directly allows the door to be opened without the need of a phone.
simple design
Residents and guests alike complain about current systems’ confusing interface. It needs to be straight to the point and not have too many flashy alternate options.
